Three Percentage of National Budget to Lawmakers

Senate President Bukola Saraki has insisted that the #125 billion set aside for the National Assembly is totally insignificant when compared to the entire Budget for the year. Saraki, in an interview with Channels TV, said the lawmakers had taken the most difficult decision by opening the budget of the National Assembly, which he claimed was only 3% of the country’s total spending for 2017. “That is not being fair, because the money is not going to the senator; it is the cost of running an arm of government. It is not the senator,” he said. “In as much as we would take our criticism, we owe a responsibility to get across the right message; that is what it cost to run the legislative arm of government. “You don’t take the overhead of the executive and say this is how much it cost to have a president, or a vice-president, or a minister, let’s be fair.” When asked if the national assembly could fairly defend its budget, Saraki said: “It is three percent of the entire budget, ...

Fake News: Weapon of Mass Destruction

W ikipedia describes fake news as “a type of yellow journalism that consists of deliberate misinformation or hoaxes spread via the traditional print, broadcasting news media, or via Internet-based social media. Fake news is written and published with the intent to mislead in order to gain financially or politically , often with sensationalist, exaggerated, or patently false headlines that grab attention. As such, intentionally misleading and deceptive fake news is different from obviously satirical or parody articles or papers such as The Onion . Fake news often employs eye-catching headlines or entirely fabricated news stories in order to increase readership and, in the case of internet-based stories, online sharing and Internet click revenue. In the latter case, profit is made in a similar fashion to sensational online " clickbait " headlines and relies on advertising revenue generated from this activity, regardless of the veracity of the published stories.” Neolo...
